The behavior change that impacted the users
- In Inventor 2025 and before, if a user has both Inventor 2024 and Inventor 2025 installed on the same machine, then launching either one will get the corresponding Apprentice Server registered to Windows registry, i.e
- the user launches Inventor Professional 2024, Apprentice Server 2024 will be automatically registered. So, user’s code(that loads Apprentice Server) will load Apprentice Server 2024
- After the user launches Inventor Professional 2025, Apprentice Server 2025 will be automatically registered. So, user’s code(that loads Apprentice Server) will load Apprentice Server 2025
- Starting from Inventor 2026:
- The Apprentice Server 2026 needs to be installed separately
- If the user has both Inventor Professional 2026 and Apprentice Server 2026 installed on the same machine
- Installing Apprentice Server 2026 will automatically get itself registered.
- Installing Inventor Professional 2026 will NOT automatically install the Apprentice Server 2026 (To use Apprentice Server, users need to download and install).
- Launching Inventor Professional 2026 will NOT register Apprentice Server 2026 to registry.
If a user has Inventor Professional 2025 (or before) installed on the machine, together with Inventor Professional 2026, Apprentice Server 2026 on the same machine:
- After launching Inventor Professional 2025, then Apprentice Server 2025 is automatically registered to Windows registry. (Note: this Apprentice Server 2025 is by default installed along with Inventor Professional 2025).
- After launching Inventor Professional 2026, then Apprentice Server 2026 is NOT registered to Windows registry. To make sure Apprentice Server 2026 is loaded subsequently, the user can run below command from Windows command line:
[Apprentice Server install folder]\Bin\ApprenticeRegSvr.exe /install
> For example (the default installation): “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Apprentice Server 2026\Bin\ApprenticeRegSvr.exe” /install
